statement: metal works
2012
I am making drawings that are fabricated in steel. They are relatively large. The lines are in real space. The field is the wall. They are more than I had hoped for because the immediacy of drawing is taken out of the paper’s space and the fragile line is transformed. A small, but not insignificant metamorphosis, as still, silent drawing and sculpture become one.
I have always been a bit of a bull in a china shop. This body of work is more in line with this aspect of my character. It is simpler in form than my paintings and more guttural. It continues to address the various issues that have always seemed most important to engage and express, but now, less subtly, more to the point. That point being struggle, on all levels and in every sense of the word, it is what we all do throughout our lives because of limitations and the conflict and confusion those limitations engender.
With an ever-increasing bank of drawings to be made in steel, I plan to add several pieces to the site each month.
